The American Bulldog
The American Bulldog is part of the Mastiff group and is a terrific breed for a household with an average yard. Originating from England where early versions were used for bull bating, this breed imigrated to America and is a taller cousin to the English Bulldog, this breed is extremely loyal and protective.
The American Bulldog has a short coat which comes in shades of white, brown, tan, red or brindle. According to breed standards, this dog is 22 to 28 inches and the normal weight is 70 to 120 pounds. This dog is muscular with long legs and very powerful jaws. A wide chest and square head make him a formidable foe, however this breed is not aggressive for the most part . With proper love and care, the American Bulldog live to the age of 16 years.

The American Bulldog is eager to train and should be trained and socialized at an early age. This breed needs moderate exercise and can even be happy in an apartment as long as he is taken for walks and play in the park. This dog loves children and is extremely loyal to his family, and in fact is known for his heroic acts toward his master. He odes have strong protective instincts however so needs to be obedience trained and socialized at an early age. This breed can be shy with strangers and may be agressive with other dogs.
The American Bulldog is an average shedder. Having a short coat, grooming is a breeze and consists of brushing and bathing as needed.
